Baishuiyang, Yuanyangxi is located in the northeast of Ping Nan in Fujian province.. It is 170 kilometers from Fuzhou city, 120 kilometers from Nide city. With Taimu mountain on east, Wuyi mountian on west , Huang mountain on north and Fuzhou city on south., it covers an area of 66 square kilometers. It can be divided into five scenic spots including: Baishuiyang,Yiyang, Liugongyan, Taibao building and Yuanyang lake . There are one tower, two temples, thirteen beaches, eighteen pools, twenty –one cavity and twenty-two peaks in the spot. Combining the fine streams high mountains, strang rocks, dangerous waterfalls, exotic cavity and dim fog together, Baishuiyang paints a wonder three-dimensional landscape of its own. There are over 500 hundreds of sights , moving or still , which include connected mountains competing each other , hundreds of waterfalls flowing rapidly, verdant forest and clean water .

　　This beautiful scenic spot grows many ancient trees, exotic flowers and rare herbs, such as Chinese yew, Cryptomeria, Ginkgo etc. There are also many rare animals living here. Meanwhile, It is the only protected natural spot for mandarin duck and macaque. Every year, from the autumn Equinox to Pure Brightness , thousands of mandarin ducks from northern Heilongjiang, Siberia, and Changbai mountain thousands of kilometers away fly here to pass the winter. There are over 300 Chinese macaques and over 10 kinds of national level1 protected animals including Sliver pheasant, Clouded leopard, boa, pangolin perching here all year long. Yuanyangxi is praised as “lovers’ Holy Land”, “Paradise in the world”, and “Natural Garden for wild animals and plants”. It is also one of the scenic spot having the largest number of waterfalls in our country and each has its feature. Among them, Baishuiyang , Baizhangji water curtain cavity, Small pot waterfall and Dingtanxianyan are national special grade scenic area. In 1984, it is listed as national- level protected area for mandarin duck and macaque. In 1989, it is listed by Provincial government as provincial- level scenic spot. In January ,1994, it is approved as the third groups of scenic spot of national importance. In June 2002, they finished the general plan for this scenic spot. In April 2005, with plenty of investigation and experts’ proof, they finished detailed plan. On 12th, December 2003, Lu Zhangong , secretary of our provincial Party Committee, came to Baishuiyang for investigation, he praised it as “ the unique scenery of the earth and the mystery of the universe” . In October 2005, it is named as “ The only homeland of mandarin duck in our country” .In October 2006, pre-vice-premier Wu Yi ,came to Baishuiyang for investigation and joyfully wrote down “extraordinary sight” to praise it. In the same year, entrusted by premier Wu, Official Shao Qiwei of National Traveling Office came here for investigation. He said that we must make Baishuiyang the nation -top and world -known traveling brand. On 18th, May, 2008, when Cheng Zhili, the national people’s congress vice-Committee head inspected Baishuiyang, he wrote down: “matchless creation of heaven and earth” to praise it. Baishuiyang is by now the only “shallow water square” in the world. Its smooth riverbed is about 2 kilometers long, covering 8 million square meters ,and its widest reaches 182 meters. Water is well-distributed along the riverbed without any sand. Walking in it, water just submerges your insteps. Under the sun, the wave shines beautifully, and the river is a vast expanse of whiteness. That is why it called “Baishuiyang” (White water Ocean). The drop in elevation between middle and down stream is a one -hundred –meter long natural slide. You can slide it down barely without hurting. So it is called “Natural surfing pool”.

　　Yuanyangxi is located at the downstream of Baishuiyang. It is 18 kilometers long with an 300 meters elevation between upstream and downstream. The stream flows through mountain gully, clean, beautiful and fine. It is an original ecology center in remote mountain along the brook basin ,living both mandarin ducks ,macaques and other rare animals. Because of the deep mountain ,remote location and little visiting, the original ecology preserves complete. Walking into the canyon, you can see so many green mountain peaks. On one hand, hundreds of waterfalls flow down rapidly with rushing current, showing you a grand sight. On the other hand, the dark blue hills and water stay quietly, giving you a feeling of mystery.Stream gorge, stone path, thick forest, fallen leaves, ancient trees, wild vine, all these are primeval, make you feel true, simple, clean and unsophisticated. The main views include: Baizhangji water curtain, Rulai ,Guanyin flying on the flog, Dingtanxianyan canyon, samll pot mouth waterfall ,mountain pressing monkey king, Weng pool,Cang pool, Longxu pool, four storey waterfall, a piece of thread waterfall, blue butterfly waterfall, flared waterfall, scattering cloud waterfall, mandarin duck waterfall, immortal bridge , lovers’ peak, lovers’ ridge etc.

　　Near the area of Yuanyangxi, there still exist a rare plant named “water pine tree” which is a plant living fossil of glacial epoch; bridge living fossil—ancient porch bridge, the longest ,most dangerous bridge and also possessing the largest number of bridges in our country. What’s more, there are also opera fossil—commoners’ opera; the only south exists high mountain thin grassland with an area of 3 million mu (0.165 acre); high mountain sandy wet land with complete ecological system. Yuanyangxi is not only a “paradise on earth” for travelers but also “heaven of mystery” for scientific inspectors.
